The Story of Texas Was Written Here.
This corner of the Brazos River played a remarkable role in the events that shaped Texas.
Historic Bernardo Plantation and nearby Groce's Ferry became part of the story of the Texas Revolution. In 1836, Sam Houston and the Texian army regrouped here before continuing toward San Jacinto. The famed Twin Sisters cannons reached Houston's camp at Bernardo Plantation before joining the army on that campaign.
Generations of ranching and agriculture have continued that story ever since.
Most Texans know the Alamo and San Jacinto. Far fewer realize that the chapter connecting them unfolded here, along the Brazos River.
